12:00 – 13:00 Anna Dimitratou: Introduction to Bollywood
An introductory workshop for Bollywood Dance. Theory, basic moves and choreography. The participants will be taught basic moves from traditional and folklore Indian Dances that are basically used at Bollywood Dance. They will work with the facial expressions, the body language and postures, and the basic rythms of the dance. The Bollywood Dance is the sometimes cheerfull and rythmic, and other times erotic and nostalgic dance we see in the Indian movies. It combines postures by classical indian dances with traditional eastern moves, and has elements from jazz, hip hop and musical dance. The unique feel-good atmosphere it creates, is what has made Bollywood Dance so popular to the world.
13:00 – 15:00 Dr. Tina Tambe: Classical Indian Dance – Kathak
In this workshop we are going to learn basic footsteps, hand moves and body movements of Kathak.
We will be focusing on expressions and learn navarasa (nine types of expressions used in Indian Dances to show different moods or emotions) and how these can be used to show different expressions in different songs.
We will combine are going to learn how to use them while performing or choreographing Kathak based Bollywood songs.
15:00 – 17:00 Prasanti Jena: Bollywood Semi – Classical
This Semi-classical Bollywood dance workshop is for all who love Indian culture and would like to have great fun while dancing in original Indian style. The steps and moves of semi-classical Bollywood are not as complex or intricate as pure Indian classical forms. However, the authenticity of the Indian dance form is preserved and participants shall be able to grasp this style more easily and feel the grace and fluidity of this dance form.
The highlight of the workshop will be a unique semi- classical style choreography on the most popular Bollywood song of 2017 “Humma Humma “ using the graceful movement vocabulary including Mudras ( Gestures) and Abhinaya (facial expressions) derived from Indian classical dances.
17:00 – 18:00 Sumon Rudra: Bollywood Freestyle
Bollywood dance is an amalgamation of various Indian and Western dances. This makes Bollywood freestyle a myriad of various other freestyle dance forms combined.
The class choreography that will be taught is a blend of Bollywood cinematic and expressive moves with groove steps from hip-hop dance. Following warm-up, the class leads to the understanding of kinetic body movement, followed by a fun, fast and energetic choreography on new age Bollywood music.
