Actress, Bollywood and Middle Eastern Dances Teacher, Choreographer and Performer, Pilates trainer are few traits among others to describe Anna Dimitratou. She is the Artistic Director of a professional Middle –Eastern dance (Bellydance) school, Artistic Studio Oriental Expression, and also founder of the 1st Bollywood Dance Academy Greece. Member of the committee at PanHellenic Bollywood and Oriental Dance Competitions and member of International Dance Council (CID – UNESCO), she is also the Organizer of the only and biggest ‘Bollywood and Multicultural Dance Festival’ in Greece since 2013.
Anna Dimitratou was born in Athens, Greece. She started her career early in Theater and graduated with Bachelor’s in Drama at the age of 18 from Iasmos Drama School (2000 – 2003).
She has worked as an actress for the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Kalamata and Roumelis, Ancient theater of Delphi, at the “Aggelon Vima” Theater among other theaters in Athens. She has starred in daily soap operas for a Greek TV channels and in independent short films. She got involved with physical theater for many years and worked under renowned artists like Kostas Philipoglou, Tapa Sudana, Lilo Baur, Marcello Magni, Esther Gonzalez and John Wright among others.
As a part of a theatre project (“Bells” – 2005) Anna was introduced to Middle Eastern and Indian Classical dances like Bharatanatyam and Kathak ,and also Bollywood. She studied folklore oriental dances like Saidi, Khalijee, Raqs Sharki, Balladi, Nubian, Ghawazee, Shaaby and modern forms of belly dance including Tribal Fusion Bellydance in Cairo, Egypt (Nile Group Festival) under teachers like Mahmoud Reda, Osama Emam, Lubna Emam, Tito Seif,Camelia, Randa Kamel and Ahmed Iekry among others.
In 2007, she became a member of the International Dance council, CID (UNESCO) and established Artistic Studio Oriental Expression in Athens, Greece, where she along with renowned guest teachers started teaching Oriental dance forms. She has performed with her group in various festivals in Greece, Turkey, Hungary, and Egypt among others. In 2009, her group won the First prize at the prestigious “The Nile Group Oriental Dance Competition” held in Cairo, Egypt. During this period, she also obtained a diploma in Pilates (BASI Pilates) and started incorporating it in her work. She developed her own training method that combines Pilates with oriental dance, called “Orientalates”.
It was her love for the Indian culture that made her dive into various Indian classical and folk dance forms and Bollywood. Since 2009, she attended various workshops of Bollywood, Rajastani, Bharatanatyam, Kathak and Odissi. In January 2013, Anna established the “1st Bollywood Dance Academy Greece” in Athens. She worked with Indian artists like Ravi Shankar Mishra, Anasua Majumdar, Rakesh Sai Babu, Ritchie Burton, Sujata Taware and George Jacob among others. She formed a professional Bollywood team and has been presenting Bollywood dance since 2013 in various festivals and on famous Greek TV shows and has featured in People and Lifo magazines.
In July 2013, she organized the 1st Bollywood and Multicultural Dance Festival in Athens which is one of the few festivals in Europe and the only one in Greece devoted primarily to Traditional – Classical Indian Dances, Bollywood and Oriental dance forms. As a part of the festival, an international Bollywood competition was introduced to provide a platform for new artists to showcase their skills in Bollywood and traditional Indian Dances. Her efforts were acknowledged and supported by the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports, the International Dance Council CID – (UNESCO), the Indian Embassy and the Greek National Tourism Organisation.
In September 2013, she was invited by renowned director Lilo Baur to perform at the Opera “Lakme” (Lakshmi), composed by Leo Delibes, at Opera De Lausanne. She trained the dancers in Indian and Middle Eastern dances and also performed in the following shows of “Lakme” in January 2014 at Opera Comique, Paris.
In 2015, during the 3rd Bollywood and Multicultural Festival, Anna, along with Indian Choreographer and teacher George Jacob, showcased “India – The Land of Love”, a Bollywood Musical for the first time in Greece including over 60 dancers from all over Greece.
The same year Anna was invited to teach Bollywood and Belly dance in Rome, Italy. Later that year in various cities across India including Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, Odissa and Agra. In Pune, she performed Bellydance in a grand show organized – presented by the famous Bollywood choreographers Geeta Kapoor and Feroz Khan. She was also invited to teach in prestigious institutions like National Institute of Technology, Rourkela and Sharda group of institutions in Agra where she was felicitated for her work in promoting Indian culture in Greece.
Anna and her team successfully organized the 4th Bollywood and Multicultural Dance Festival in July 2016 at the historical Dora Stratou Theater in Athens, Greece. In the end of July 2016, she travelled along with her colleague Sumon Rudra to teach Bollywood and Bellydance in a Summer Camp in France, which was organized by the Paris based group, Bolly Deewani.
Anna continues her Journey to explore the field of Theatre, Oriental and Indian dance forms.
